DELANO, MN Everyone was found to be safe and sound following a several-hour search of the Crow River area in and around Delano early the morning of March 26.
A call was received by Wright County Communications that a man in his mid-30s had fallen from a canoe into the Crow River at around 2 a.m.
A search ensued and included the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Delano Fire Department, Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, Watertown Fire Department, North Memorial Ambulance, and a Minnesota State Patrol helicopter.
After several hours, it was determined two people were canoeing when their canoe capsized. The men were later identified as Craig Krohnfeldt, 43, of Delano, and Charles Case, 36, of Becker.
One of the men made it out of the river on the Wright County side just north of the Delano Sportsman’s Club, while the other apparently made it out on the Hennepin County side in the same area.
Each man apparently reported the other missing, according to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
Watertown Fire Department launched a boat in the area of River Street, just south of Bridge Avenue in Delano, and traveled the river from that area north toward the Delano Sportsman’s Club.
The canoe the two had been in was recovered from the river, according to the sheriff’s office. It is believed alcohol was involved in the incident. No injuries were reported, and no charges are expected to be filed, according to the sheriff’s office.
