Cokato Corn Carnival starts Monday, Aug. 13

COKATO, MN – In just one week, Peterson Park will be abuzz for the 63rd annual Cokato Corn Carnival festivities.

The much-anticipated event begins with a parade Monday, Aug. 13 at 6 p.m., which begins at Broadway and 7th Street (see parade route map).

As of press time, there were around 90 entrants including area royalty, local businesses, non-profit organizations, and much more.

Following the parade, corn bingo begins and Jonathan Rundman will perform on the Peterson Park stage. He is a Minneapolis-based singer/songwriter who grew up on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. Rundman also records and performs with the Finnish-American folk duo Kaivama.

The Midway rides and games will also be open following the parade Monday and starting at noon Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday’s highlights include children’s prize giveaways at 3:15 p.m., the serving of free corn-on-the-cob from 4 to 9 p.m., and the Miss Cokato Coronation at 8 p.m. (see candidate profiles). Four $100-cash prizes will also be given away.

Local dance students will grace the stage Wednesday providing entertainment from 2 to 3 p.m.

Children 14 and under will also have another opportunity to register to win prizes Wednesday. Registration is from noon to 3 p.m. with a drawing at 3:15 p.m. Must be present to win.

The Mid-Minnesota Concert Band will celebrate 35 years of entertaining audiences with a reunion concert at 7 p.m.

Vocal group Divas Through the Decades will perform from 8-9 p.m. This trio of talented performers will present a musical tribute to some of the most influential female vocalists of the 1960s, ‘70s, ‘80s and today.

This program is sponsored by the Cokato Public Library and funded in part with money from Minnesota’s Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.

Then at 10 p.m., drawings for the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze and cash prizes up to $2,500 will take place.

Sew Friendly Quilt Show

Sew Friendly Quilt Show will take place during the Cokato Corn Carnival. The show will take place at Elim Mission Church Tuesday, Aug 14 from 1 to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

See beautiful quilts, vote for the Viewer’s Choice Award winner and get tickets to win the raffle quilt. The winner will be drawn Wednesday at 3 p.m.
