DELANO, MN Those who’ve driven through Delano lately may have spotted a new salon in the strip mall near Loopy’s Dollar Store and Edie Mae’s on Highway 12.
It’s called Studio 12, and owner Lisa Rightler is excited to build her local client base. She’s also looking forward to renting space to other stylists.
“I have eight stations,” she said. “My goal is to help other stylists become owners.”
Rightler has been a hairdresser for the past 18 years, but her styling skills developed when she was growing up in Moorhead.
“My mother was an instructor at Josef’s School of Hair Design,” she said. “I spent my summers going to the school, playing with wigs.”
But when Rightler graduated from high school, she hadn’t quite settled on a hairdressing career yet.
“In my heart, I think I kind of knew,” she said.
In the meantime, Rightler became a nanny in Connecticut. She also went to cosmetology school on the side, and later lived in Florida about four years.
“That was enough for me, and I came back home,” she said.
Rightler was a stylist in Excelsior and Minnetonka before starting Studio 12.
She keeps the job fresh by continually learning about new products and techniques. She especially enjoys going to hair shows and then trying the ideas.
Although Rightler doesn’t practice on wigs anymore, her 9-year-old daughter, Geneva, does.
Rightler describes Geneva as “artsy,” while Geneva’s twin brother, Ashton, is a “go-getter.”
Rightler and her husband, Jon, also have a 5-year-old son named Brady.
“I could see him doing something with church,” Rightler said.
Rightler homeschools all three children, in addition to running Studio 12.
Before the salon opened, Rightler gave it a makeover from top to bottom, with an updated ceiling, walls, and floors.
