DELANO, MN – At its meeting Tuesday night, the Delano Fourth of July Celebration Committee decided to leave the parade route as is for the 2012 celebration.

The Delano Lions, one of the six local civic organizations that make up the Fourth of July Celebration Committee, had taken a look at moving the parade route from Third Street to Second Street.

Following much discussion of the pros and cons of moving the route, a vote was taken of the six organizations and the decision was made to leave the parade route on Third Street.

After the meeting, Fourth of July Committee President Alex Roeser said the committee is constantly looking for new approaches to deal with the increasing popularity of the event.

“We are very fortunate to be as successful as we are, which is a testament to all the volunteers who plan and work the event,” Roeser said. “We never want to lose the traditions that have made the event successful, but with all events that grow, there will have to be changes to deal with success.”

He added that the committee is thankful for the calls, e-mails, and conversations that have taken place over the last month regarding the proposed changes to the route.

“The committee would like to continue to encourage input from the community to help us continue to make the event successful,” Roeser said.

This year’s Fourth of July Celebration will take place Saturday, June 30 and Sunday, July 1. It will break Monday, July 2, and then resume Tuesday, July 3 and conclude Wednesday, July 4.

Bands booked for this year’s celebration include Rocket Club (Saturday, June 30), GB Leighton/Tim Mahoney (Tuesday, July 3), and DiamondBack (Wednesday, July 4).
