LORETTO, MN The Canadian Pacific Railroad will be bringing its Holiday Train to the city of Loretto, collecting food and monetary donations for area food shelves in Hanover, Rockford, Delano, and Maple Plain.
The train is scheduled to arrive in Loretto Thursday, Dec. 13 at 4:15 p.m.
Beginning at 3 p.m. that day, local businesses and volunteers will be hosting free holiday festivities on West Railway Street, including a visit from Santa, rides on a kiddie train, hay wagon rides, bonfires, caroling, and free hot chocolate and cookies. Radio station KRWC will be on site, playing holiday music.
During the stop, there will be musical performances aboard the train by Juno Award-winning Tracey Brown, and roots music sensation The Claytones.
Road closures will begin at 2:30 p.m., with shuttle service and parking provided at the Loretto softball fields and Saints Peter and Paul Church parking lot.
Last year, the Holiday Train event brought in more than $21,000 and 2,400 pounds of food due to great community support.
The Canadian Pacific Railroad will match all funds (up to $250,000) raised at the local community events for the Holiday Train. These matching donations will be provided to Feeding America, whose member food banks continue to provide aid to those affected by hurricane Sandy.
