DELANO, MN – A 16-year-old male from Greenfield led a Wright County Sheriff’s deputy on a short pursuit before the youth crashed his truck into a fence by the Delano United Methodist Church.
At about 1:20 a.m., the deputy attempted to stop the youth, driving a 2011 black Chevy pickup truck, for some traffic infractions in the area of Tiger Drive and St. Peter Avenue, according to the sheriff’s office.
The driver fled eastbound on St. Peter Avenue at a high rate of speed, crossed County Line Road, and crashed into the fence. The driver fled on foot but was later located and taken into custody, according to the sheriff’s office. There were no other occupants in the truck and the driver was not injured.
The Minnesota State Patrol helicopter was launched, but was canceled when the suspect was located. Other agencies assisting the Wright County Sheriff’s Office were the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, West Hennepin Public Safety, and the Minnetonka Police Department K9 unit.
The truck was towed from the scene and impounded.
