'Tis the season to store up treasures

Summer is here, and it seems to be going fast. Vacation, the lake, the ballpark, the golf course, and the backyard are all calling out for us.

Summer is a time for us to slow down and enjoy simple pleasures. Slowing down will not only help us to feel better; we will be better. Rest, relaxation, and retreat help us to absorb the sights and sounds around us, and appreciate the people and things in our lives more. We are quicker to laugh, to love, to forgive, and to give thanks. These are the treasures that have everlasting value.

It is important that we worship regularly during the summer. Summer is a great time for a vacation, but not a vacation from praising and worshipping God.

In Matthew’s Gospel chapter 6, Jesus says, “For where your treasure is, there also will your heart be.”

In other words, “The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be, and end up being.”

As I write this column, I am in the midst of packing and moving to a new assignment in Catholic Area Faith Community of Jesus Our Living Water, with Willmar, Spicer, Kandiyohi, and Lake Lillian. I will be the senior associate of the Church of St. Mary in Willmar, and will be assisting in the area faith community.

I will also be responsible for ministry to the Hispanic community. Being a senior associate in this area has been an interesting and rewarding time for me amidst its challenges.

Many of you have touched my life and my heart. I appreciate you for all the ways that you have been a loving and caring part of my time here. I rely on your prayers as I begin a very challenging and enriching ministry. May God bless you as only a loving God can.
