COKATO, MN The Cokato Fire Department has elected Hutch Erickson as its new fire chief at its meeting this past month. Former and longtime fire chief, Mike Holmquist was elected assistant fire chief.
The Cokato City Council accepted the appointments during a special council Thursday.
Erickson, who was the assitant chief, will now replace Jeff Carlson as chief.
Odds and ends
In other business, the council:
• approved an off-sale intoxicating liquor license for Dennis Niesen, who will assume new ownership of the liquor store at 305 Broadway Avenue South. The new ownership will also come with a name change from Niesen Liquor to Broadway Liquor.
• approved the 2014 fee and permit schedule. The council decided it would wait on increasing the on-sale liquor fee (it’s currently at $2,000) until next September to allow time for discussion and notice to business owners.
• approved an ordinance for home delivery of intoxicating liquor, a new service being offered at Cokato Wine & Spirits. It was noted the ordinance was much the same as Annandale’s, which is the only city in the area with a business that offers this particular service.
• renewed a land rental lease with Larry Davis and Anderson Seeds for 80 acres of city-owned land on County State Aid Highway 4 and 8.5 acres of land on Johnson Avenue.
It was noted that the lease agreement has worked really well for many years.
