COKATO, MN Staff at the Cokato Museum have been working to revamp its school exhibit to include more than the country school history.
Museum Assistant Johanna Ellison explained that the previous display focused on country schools in Stockholm, Cokato, and French Lake townships.
Though photos and maps of where each school was located is still a part of this exhibit, there are now additional photos and memorabilia that include Cokato High School and the combined Dassel-Cokato High School/Middle School.
Ellison noted that the decision to update the exhibit was made, in part, because of the fact that 2012 was the 40th year of Dassel-Cokato Schools.
A wall which once displayed area church photos, has now been adorned with photos of the Cokato High School building through the years, a list of superintendents from 1902 to 1972, class photos, gym uniforms, and more.
Among the photos are the ground-breaking photos for the middle school in 1989, and Cokato Elementary in 1992.
Ellison also explained that the way the exhibit is set up will allow the staff to rotate through the museum’s collection and feature different donations it received that are school-related.
The public, as always, is welcome to stop into the museum to view the new exhibit. The museum’s next task will be completing a new church exhibit.
Ellison also encouraged anyone interested in donating memorabilia or photos from Cokato Schools or DC Schools to do so. “We will gladly take them,” she said.
