HOWARD LAKE, MNJeff Schoess was elected president of the Howard Lake Area Chamber of Commerce by a one-vote margin during the Dec. 18 meeting.
Duane Burkstrand, current president, and Schoess, current vice president, were the nominees.
Schoess is also president and CEO of Eden Medical in Howard Lake.
Schoess has three areas on which he plans to focus during his presidency, he said.
“We need to focus on resources, marketing, and developing a five-year plan for the chamber,” Schoess commented.
Businesses in the area need to know what resources are available to them, and possibly have training made available, according to Schoess.
The chamber needs to work on marketing strategies and a long-term plan for success, he added.
“Local businesses need to know the chamber is for them,” Schoess said, “and we will be seeking input on how we can improve the chamber from local businesses and community members.”
Since Schoess was the vice president for the years 2009-13, and he was nominated for presidency, the vice president position was open for election.
Karen Mumford was elected vice president for 2014, Louise Arlien will continue as secretary, and Bonnie Seegmiller will continue as treasurer.
