LESTER PRAIRIE, MN A new retail operation may be in the future for Lester Prairie.
Last week, City Clerk Marilyn Pawelk confirmed that Casey’s General Store submitted site plans for a gas station/convenience store to be located on property owned by Glencoe Regional Health Services west of the clinic, near the intersection of McLeod County Road 9 and McLeod County Road 23 on the east side of the city.
The site plans have been forwarded to the planning commission for review.
The planning commission will determine if the plans meet zoning requirements for the property, which is in the B2 Highway Commercial zoning district, and make sure there are no zoning issues with the plans as presented.
The planning commission will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7 at city hall.
Pawelk confirmed that Mayor Andy Heimerl requested that the item be added to the agenda for the Tuesday, May 14 city council meeting. She noted this is for council discussion, and not as a public forum (all council meetings are open to the public unless closed for certain specific reasons under the open meeting law, but it is at the discretion of the mayor whether or not residents will be given the opportunity to speak).
Site plans and building permits do not require city council approval. They are approved by the building inspector.
