Annual township meetings, elections set for March 12

CARVER, WRIGHT, McLEOD COUNTIES, MN – Annual meetings for local townships are set for Tuesday, March 12.

Four of the townships also have elections that day.

Generally, one supervisor and the clerk positions are up, which feature three-year and two-year terms, respectively.

A few local exceptions are Hollywood, Camden, Bergen, Winsted, and Watertown townships, which conducted their elections in the fall.

Watertown Township
The annual meeting in Watertown Township will start at 7 p.m. at the town hall, 3580 County Road 10 N. in Watertown.

The agenda includes setting the levy for 2014, reports on sheriff contracts, planning for road and bridge projects, fire protection contracts, and a proposal for a grader purchase.

In case of inclement weather, the meeting may be postponed until Tuesday, March 19.

Bergen Township
The annual meeting in Bergen Township will begin at 8 p.m. at the town hall, 16595 Babcock Avenue in Lester Prairie.

The board will be discussing a township maintenance shed.

“Our equipment is currently stored at the county maintenance shed near Lester Prairie. That location will likely be sold in the future, once the county builds its new maintenance shed,” Clerk Amy Meyer noted.

Other items on the agenda are right of ways and culverts. Residents should watch for their annual newsletter which has more township information.

Winsted Township
Winsted Township’s annual meeting will start at 8 p.m. at the Vollmer Room of Winsted City Hall.

Items on the agenda include fire department reports and setting the 2014 levy.

In case of inclement weather, the meeting may be postponed until Tuesday, March 19.

Victor Township
Polls in Victor Township will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the town hall, 8718 90th St. SW in Howard Lake.

Burton Horsch’s term as supervisor for Victor Township is up, as well as Sean Gross’s term as treasurer.

Both incumbents have re-filed.

The annual meeting will start at 8:05 p.m., followed by the board of canvas meeting.

The tentative annual meeting agenda includes a discussion of gravel needs and dust control, along with a review of fire department activities.

Middleville Township
In Middleville Township, the polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Middleville Township Hall, 3014 County Rd. 6 SW, Howard Lake.

Jim Raymond’s term as supervisor is up, as well as Judy Forst’s term as treasurer.

Both incumbents have re-filed.

The board of canvass will meet immediately after the polls close to certify the official election results.

The annual meeting will start immediately after the board of canvass. The main items on the agenda is the proposed levy.

The next regular Middleville Township meeting has been changed to Monday, March 11 at 7 p.m. at the Middleville Township Hall.

Woodland Township
Polls in Woodland Township will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the town hall, 2070 County Road 30 SW in Montrose.

Two seats are open, including the supervisor position previously held by Ken Pawelk, as well as treasurer Paula Wood LaVigne’s position. (Ken retired in July, and Barry Pawelk was appointed to fill his position until March.)

Barry Pawelk and Dick Borrell filed for supervisor, and Paula LaVigne re-filed for treasurer.

The annual meeting starts at 8:05 p.m.

Marysville Township
Polls in Marysville Township will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the town hall, 3733 Dempsey Ave. SW in Waverly.

One seat is open, the supervisor position currently served by Dick Sawatzke.

Sawatzke has re-filed.

The annual meeting will take place after the election, starting at 8:05 p.m. A few items on the agenda include financial reports, the 2014 levy, dust coating, and election results.

Hollywood Township
Hollywood Township’s annual meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Hollywood Town Hall, one block east of the Hollywood Sports Complex on Carver County Road 122.

In case of inclement weather, the meeting may be postponed until Tuesday, March 19.

All township residents are encouraged to attend the meeting, which provides an opportunity to get updates on the township, voice opinions, and have direct input on township issues.

The agenda for the annual meeting includes discussion about wooded lots, setting tax levies, various reports, gravel purchases, road maintenance, and other business brought by the citizens of Hollywood Township.

Camden Township
The annual meeting in Camden Township will take place at 7 p.m. at the town hall, 315 State Ave. S in New Germany.

A few items on the agenda include suggested levy amounts, fire contracts, and presentations from any commissioners or public officials who attend.
