LORETTO, MN Under new management and a slightly different name the restaurant at 115 Railway Street in Loretto has reopened.
Bistro 19 general manager Tim Cullers “TC” has been in the food industry since age 16 from bus boy on up.
Now he manages Bistro 19 for John and Ann Laurent, who own the restaurant and building. Bistro 19 had a soft opening the Tuesday after Memorial Day, and now is open daily from 4-10 p.m.
“We have a handful of fantastic entrees,” Culler said, citing a top sirloin, a parmesan-crusted walleye, salmon, and pork chops with sweet potatoes and Brussels sprouts.
A double-stacked stone oven yields tasty flat breads and pizzas with imported caputo dough from Italy.
“We have a friendly wine list,” Culler added. “It’s comfortable, but we also offer some up-scale solutions.”
He said the establishment also offers a fully-stocked bar with some local craft beers like Lucid and Indeed also on tap.
Bistro 19 has been viewed as fun, friendly, and well-received so far.
“The community has been very helpful and supportive,” Culler said. “Everybody’s been fantastic.”
Formerly known as Bistro 11 the establishment is now Bistro 19, which corresponds with the road it is on.
“That was a simple change,” Cullers said. Other noticeable changes include more seating on the patio and a slight redesign inside.
Shane DeHaan is the primary chef at Bistro 19, and recently graduated from a culinary program in Iowa. Cullers had also hired a few people back from the former Bistro.
“The staff came together very well,” Cullers said. “I think they’ve done a wonderful job. It’s been a lot of fun.”
He said, like the opening of any new venture, there have been some bumps along the way.
“There is always those first three to five days, taking a staff that’s new to the menu and trying to teach everybody,” Culler said. “It takes time.”
Culler said Bistro 19 is in the process of developing happy hour appetizer offerings and continually expanding on its menu and daily features.
“I think it’s a fun, comfortable atmosphere with great food,” Culler said.
