Home and Yard Feature: Brandel Electric
May 12, 2014

Whether it’s providing more outdoor lighting or brightening up a living space, Mike Brandel and his team of electricians at Brandel Electric are ready to assist homeowners in their home improvement projects.

“There are now a lot more options for outdoor lighting,” Brandel said, adding “LED lighting is where everything is heading.”

Some of the big advantages to replacing those incandescent lights with LED lighting is efficiency.

Upgrading lighting in living space with LED recessed lighting not only provides a fresh look and more even lighting, but the bulbs are also meant to last longer and lower energy costs, Brandel explained.

Looking to brighten up the outdoors? Motion sensor lighting offers homeowners better safety and security.

“Motion sensors have gotten a lot better,” Brandel said. “They have become more reliable in the past few years.

Updating fuse boxes

If homeowners still have fuse boxes for their electrical service, Brandel recommends scheduling to have them updated to a newer circuit panel.

Not only is a circuit panel more reliable, but it’s also safer.

“If a fuse box isn’t maintained properly, it can become a fire hazard, whereas a circuit breaker is safer,” Brandel commented.

Upgrade fire alarms

The next big safety factor is ensuring a home’s fire alarm system is up-to-date and reliable in case of an emergency.

“The new requirements are that all of your smoke alarms are interconnected,” Brandel said.

Having alarms interconnected means that if a smoke alarm goes off in one area of the home, all of the detectors go off.

He also noted that there are combination detectors for both smoke and carbon monoxide.
