Old-Fashioned Christmas in Delano Saturday, Dec. 6
Dec. 1, 2014

DELANO, MN – Saturday, Dec. 6 is the day the holidays start in downtown Delano, with the Old-Fashioned Christmas event.

The Delano Area Council for Arts and Culture welcomes everyone to a day of art, music, shopping, family activities, and fun in downtown Delano from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Art Walk
Twenty local artists will display their work inside Delano offices and businesses, so visitors may browse the Art Walk and shop for a unique gift of art.

Works include jewelry, paintings, drawings, photography, fabric art, and wood and metal objects.

Locations of artists can be found on a map at the information desk in Delano City Hall, 234 Second St. in Delano.

Local musicians, both vocal and instrumental, will perform throughout the event.

The Delano Senior Center Choir, Delano United Methodist Choir, Soul Sisters, Sound Revolution from Delano High School, Reese Family Violinists, and student instrumental groups will entertain with holiday and seasonal music.

Family activities include the Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) Teddy Bear Tea, holiday ornament making at the Delano Library, and a holiday character hunt.

The holiday character hunt takes place from 10:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., with a drawing at 1:40 p.m.

The characters include Suzy Snowflake, a Candy Cane, Frosty the Snowman, a Reindeer, and Mr. and Mrs. Claus.

Children can pick up a card at city hall, with the characters listed and a space to be stamped by each character.

The hunt is downtown, indoors and out. When all characters are found, the card can be returned to city hall to be entered in a drawing for prizes donated by local businesses.

All children returning a completed card to city hall will receive a treat bag prepared by the Firemen’s Ladies Auxiliary.

Home tour
A holiday home tour, from 1 to 5 p.m., includes five homes in the Delano/Rockford area decorated for the holidays.

The tour, planned by the Arts and Culture Council, requires a $10 ticket. Tickets are available before the event at the Delano Senior Center and Delano Wine and Spirits, and on the day of the tour at the information desk in city hall. Tickets will have addresses of the homes, and include a map of the area of the tour. No tickets will be sold at the homes during the tour.

The evening of the Old-Fashioned Christmas event, “The Joy of Christmas Present,” a drop-in concert and social, will be brought to downtown Delano by the Three Crows Café. Music starts at 6 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m., upstairs in the Heritage Center.

Still Standing, the Three Crows house group, plus some friends, will entertain during the evening.

There is no admission, but tips will be appreciated by the musicians.

Bring your own beverage, and Dave’s Town Club will provide pizza slices for sale.
