The Fabulous Armadillos, the Chris Hawkey Band, a special reunion of local favorites Big Guns/Leash, and one of the region’s top country bands in Maiden Dixie are all scheduled to perform at this year’s Fourth of July Celebration in Delano.

Following last year’s schedule, this year’s celebration will take place Wednesday, July 2 through Saturday, July 5.

In addition to a performance from the Fabulous Armadillos Wednesday night, which begins at 7 p.m., the day will feature the start of the American Legion baseball tournament, GoldStar Carnival, bingo stand, and other celebration favorites.

The Fabulous Armadillos have quickly become one of the largest-drawing acts in central Minnesota.

Every show they bring to the stage is different. The Fabulous Armadillos will travel as an eight-piece band to the Delano Fourth of July Celebration. These shows are a “best of” many songs from the group’s past and current themes, including “Takin’ It To The Limit: An Eagles Tribute,” “Floydian Slip: A Tribute To Pink Floyd,” and “Takin’ It To The Streets: A Doobie Brothers Tribute.” It is all fun music that keeps it entertaining and lively, that crosses all genres and age groups.

The Delano Royalty Organization coronation will take place Wednesday, July 2 at the Delano Middle School Auditorium. The Delano Royalty Organization 2014 Fourth of July Celebration buttons, designed by Jessica Artibee, will be available in the near future.

The band is back together for a special reunion Thursday, July 3 with Delano area favorites Big Guns/Leash. Watch for more on this in a future edition.

The big day, Friday, July 4 will include traditional favorites such as Minnesota’s oldest and largest Fourth of July parade, the July 4 5k, and live music that night from the Chris Hawkey Band.

Hawkey sings lead vocal for the Chris Hawkey Band, which has been together since 2004 and is a regular in the Twin Cities music scene.

In addition to Hawkey, the band is comprised of Darren Schauer (drums), Jess Vraspir (bass guitar), Tim Walterson (lead guitar) and Chad Dillerud (rhythm guitar).

Collectively, they have more than 50 years experience in the music industry. In the past two years, the band has built a faithful following and opened for such acts as Cheap Trick, Molly Hatchet, Quiet Riot, Counting Crows, and have played at numerous Minnesota-based city celebrations as well as the Minnesota Vikings Party on the Plaza.

Hawkey is also a member of Delano Fourth of July Celebration favorite Rocket Club.

The 2014 parade grand marshal will be announced in the near future.

A new event for 2014 will be a Minnesota Craft Beer Tasting Spectacular, tentatively set for July 4 following the parade. Watch for more information in the future.

Fireworks night will be Saturday, July 5. Also that day will be the Delano Fire Department’s waterball tournament, bean bag tournament, kiddie parade, kiddie tractor pull, Minnesota Disc Dogs, and much more.

Maiden Dixie will cap off the 158th Delano Fourth of July Celebration Saturday night.

Energetic. Passionate. Exuberant. One would be hard-pressed to find a band that more embodies these qualities than Maiden Dixie. Breaking onto the music scene in the fall of 2011, this country rock septet has been gaining unchecked momentum ever since.

Whether composing, recording or performing live, these seven musicians combine their talents, experience, and love of music to form a true bond with their audience.

Having been assembled from all corners of the United States, the personal experiences and musical influences of these performers run deep and wide.

Comprised of two combat veterans of the Iraq War, six music/composition majors and even a division one basketball player, Maiden Dixie is an eclectic mix of interesting characters.

With an inimitable blending of the country, rock, blues and folk genres, Maiden Dixie guarantees an exciting and enthusiastic live performance that is sure to get the audience up on their feet dancing.

Delano’s own Cevin Reed runs sound for the hot group.

In addition to the evening entertainment, the family entertainment stage will return for its second year. Watch for more on this and additional Fourth of July details in the future.
