McLEOD COUNTY, MN With paving of the Luce Line State Trail from Hutchinson to the Carver County line planned for next summer, the City of Winsted is researching ways to make a trail connection through town.
Currently, the trail ends near McLeod County Road 9 on the east side of Winsted, and near McLeod County Road 1 on the west side.
“We have several options to close the gap,” City Administrator Clay Wilfahrt said at the Sept. 2 council meeting.
One possibility is for trail users to share the roadway with vehicles. Wilfahrt said this is the most likely scenario if no other resolution is reached.
The second is to obtain a right-of-way along the road for trail users. Wilfahrt said he doesn’t know how realistic this would be, and he is currently researching the possibility.
A third option would be to obtain land to connect the trail. Wilfahrt said this would require the agreement of several landowners.
“We’re trying to see which one makes the most sense,” Wifahrt said, adding that he hopes to have an answer soon, so it can be part of the overall trail project.
