BLOOMINGTON, MN Delano Herald Journal Managing Editor Ryan Gueningsman won a top award announced at the Minnesota Newspaper Association convention Thursday for Best Explanation of News Operations/Ethics.
The award was for his column Nov. 5, 2012 on “The evil of social media,” which included an example of people sending condolences to a family before they were even formally notified by law enforcement about an accident involving a loved one.
Most notable, the award was given in competition among all Minnesota newspapers, regardless of size.

Also at the convention, the Delano Herald Journal received second place in its circulation class for sports reporting, and Matt Kane won a first place award for his sports feature story in the Dassel-Cokato Enterprise Dispatch about the Aho family who had brothers on the high school football team for 24 straight years.
Herald Journal, the Delano Herald Journal's sister newspaper, won second place in its circulation class for General Reporting. Judges said: “This paper probably had the most extensive local coverage of all submissions.”
