Authorities investigating damage done at Delano church

DELANO, MN – As a result of setting off a fire alarm at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano Aug. 2 at 5:42 a.m., a St. Cloud man is facing numerous charges.

The Delano Fire Department and Wright County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a fire alarm at the church, located in the 400 block of Bridge Avenue East. When the Delano Fire Department arrived on scene, they advised responding units they saw three males run from the church, according to the sheriff’s office.

Firefighters chased and apprehended one of the persons seen running from the church, a 23-year-old man from St. Cloud, and brought him back to the church.

Damage was located inside the building and items stolen from the church were located, according to the sheriff’s office.

The man was transported to the Wright County Jail where he was booked pending charges of third degree burglary, first degree criminal damage to property, and possession of stolen property. Formal charges had not been filed as of press time.

The investigation is ongoing, according to the sheriff’s office. Anyone with information is asked to call (763) 682-1162.
