DELANO, MN Melinda Miller encourages people who haven’t been to Vintage on Bridge yet to “walk through the door at least once.”
“I think it’s surprising to people,” she said. “Everything is unique you’re just not going to find it anywhere else.”
Miller, Stacy Frank, and Janet Morkrid (all of Delano) opened the occasional store in May, offering vintage furniture, reclaimed furnishings, and up-cycled décor for the home.
“We try to make it a different store every month,” Morkrid said.
New items are brought in by each owner, as well as by Delano residents Brenda Stevens and Dawn Paul, who also have spaces in the shop.
“One of the things I like best is seeing what other people have for the shop each month,” Miller said.
Where do the pieces come from?
“Everywhere,” according to Morkrid.
The next treasure could be a delicate tea set at a garage sale, a wooden chair on the side of a road marked “giveaway,” or an antique clock from a thrift store anything has potential in the creative minds of the owners at Vintage on Bridge.
Frank said it’s fun to “revive” old furniture, transforming it into something beautiful and functional. Some furniture is repainted, while other items are simply cleaned and kept in their natural state.
“When I’m working on a piece, I really look at what’s going to work in someone’s home,” Miller said. “I wouldn’t choose a bright orange for a big table, but I might do a bolder color for a small end table.”
Miller enjoys working with stencils, especially French motifs, but is careful not to make the pieces “too specific,” to make sure they will work in a wide range of homes.
A gem for a small town
Miller, Frank, and Morkrid got to know each other while selling with Amy Erwing at Sarophia Furniture Consignment & More in Delano.
“The three of us just clicked,” Morkrid said.
They took over the building at 121 Bridge Ave. E. in April, and had their first sale a month later.
Despite road construction and rainy weather the first two months, Vintage on Bridge is rapidly gaining a following in Delano and the surrounding area.
Happy customers have posted reviews on the store’s Facebook site such as, “Wow, what darling stuff and really good prices; highly recommend” and “Creative minds producing quality, vintage items for your home; a gem of a store in a small-town community.”
The next Vintage on Bridge sale will be the second weekend in October. Hours Thursday, Oct. 9 through Saturday, Oct. 11 are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Sunday, Oct. 12, the store is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
