Tuesday marked my one-year anniversary at the Delano Herald Journal.
It’s hard for me to believe I’ve been here a year already.
(Insert cheesy cliché here.)
It’s been a busy year, and it’s included quite a learning curve.
Having been in journalism for six years before coming to Delano, I honestly wasn’t expecting the learning curve to be that steep. But, every company has its own way of doing things, as does every community.
Learning how things work in a new environment takes time and help from those who are used to said environment.
I’d like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped make this transition a little easier: my coworkers and the people I have met so far in the community.
Delano has been a very welcoming place, and I truly appreciate it.
I want to give a special shout-out to the Lions, who let me transfer my membership from Maple Lake and welcomed me to the club. I have enjoyed getting to know and working with this group and look forward to the work ahead.
I have enjoyed working with other organizations, as well, and am excited to keep working together to promote their efforts and events.
While I have met a lot of people over the past year, I have a lot more I need to meet.
If you see me out and about, please don’t hesitate to stop me and introduce yourself.
I have been impressed with how connected the community is to this paper. For example, it would take me quite a while to count up all the leads I have gotten for stories and events that are happening.
Please, keep them coming.
I want to cover this community in the best way that I can, and I’ll take all the help I can get to do that.
Whether it’s a story idea, a comment, a correction, a complaint, etc., I want to know about it.
Feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, call me at (763) 972-1028, or stop by the office at 701 Babcock Blvd. Suite 110 (behind NAPA).
While I’m pleased with what I have learned and accomplished in the past year, I’m even more excited about the years ahead.
