MONTROSE, MN Motorists began encountering delays on Highway 12 between Delano and Montrose Tuesday, as work began on a “continuous intersection” at the junction of highways 12 and 25.
A continuous intersection will allow eastbound traffic to travel continuously through the intersection, while the other lanes of traffic will be controlled by a traffic signal. Improvements also include new turn lanes, raised medians, overhead lighting, and improved drainage.
Highway 12 was reduced to a single lane during non-rush hours starting Tuesday while crews constructed temporary bypass lanes along the south side of the highway.
All lanes of Highway 12 are expected to be opened and switched to temporary bypass lanes beginning Tuesday, July 14.
Bypass lanes will be used through mid-August.
Highway 25 between Montrose and Buffalo will be fully closed at the Highway 12 intersection and detoured. Motorises traveling between Montrose and Buffalo should follow the signed detour along Wright County Road 12, or seek alternate routes.
All homes and businesses along Highway 25 will remain accessible throughout the closure.
