DELANO, MN After months of planning and construction, GrandStay Hotel & Suites Delano will open Wednesday.
A local ownership group purchased the land at 395 13th St. S. Dec. 28, 2013 and construction began in August of 2014.
“It’s been a pretty quick turnaround,” said Steve King, a member of the local ownership group. “It was right on budget and right on schedule, so we feel pretty good about both those things.”
GrandStay Regional Vice President Scott Ehrlichman echoed those sentiments.
“It’s gone very smoothly actually,” Ehrlichman said. “There were the usual little hiccups, but it’s gone beautifully. We couldn’t ask for a better opening. Once they started building, the target was an April 1 opening. It’s extremely rare to hit the target. I’ve seen them backed up 90 days. My hat’s off to (the contractor) Gordon James.”
Several people have already made reservations.
“We have 27 or 28 blocks of rooms reserved through October,” General Manager Heather Maher said. “People have been making reservations within those blocks and individual reservations for things like graduation and visiting family.”
King said he is pleased to see the project come to fruition.
“I’m just excited we have the opening coming up and already have some rooms sold,” King said.
The hotel has 54 rooms, including seven extended-stay rooms featuring a kitchenette and separate bedroom.
Amenities include an indoor pool and hot tub, Grand Start breakfast, free wifi Internet access, fitness center access, a business center, onsite laundry, microwave, fridge, coffeemaker, iron and ironing board, and 24-hour guest services.
GrandStay President Jon Kennedy said the local location fits well into the company’s long-term plans.
“GrandStay has embarked on an aggressive growth strategy with the GrandStay Hotel & Suites Delano, as the first of six new hotels to open in the next few months,” Kennedy said. “We are a brand on the move with many more hotels in the pipeline. We are very proud of the new location in Delano and anticipate the owners and management of this hotel to provide the very finest in hospitality for visitors to the area.”
King, the owner of Landscape Structures, said the local hotel will fill a longtime void.
“Delano has missed out on a lot of opportunities they couldn’t support because there wasn’t lodging,” King said. “There was one party interested in the industrial park, but one reason they said no was because there wasn’t a hotel . . . The (Delano Area) Chamber (of Commerce) and city are excited about the hotel being here and the opportunities it creates.”
Guests can make reservations by calling (763) 972-4303, or toll free at (855) 455-7829, or by visiting www.grandstaydelano.com.
A grand opening will take place at a later date.
