Anderson family – Who's Who in Howard Lake
Aug. 3, 2015

HOWARD LAKE, MN – After long days at work, David and Janet Anderson spend their time transporting children to activities and rooting for their teams.

The couple has two children, Mark, 10, and Julia, 9, who both attend Howard LakeWaverly-Winsted Schools.

Mark has been showing calves for family friends Sean and Linda Groos at the Wright County Fair to keep the family busy recently.

“Janet was a big city girl,” David joked. “Now I see her brushing a cow’s tail at the fair, but the look on her face while she does it is still priceless.”

“Willmar isn’t that big, but I guess we just begin doing what our kids want to do,” Janet noted. “It’s part of being parents with little ones.”

The family doesn’t have any farm animals of their own, but has helped neighbors and friends with showing animals at the fair for the past couple years.

“Our daughter, Julia, wants a horse,” Janet said. “But we don’t live on a farm, we just live in the country, and I told her we don’t have room.”

“We have a dog and hamster,” David commented. “Of course, the kids want ducks, chickens, horses, and everything else, too.”

The children love to participate in community activities including the Good Neighbor Days (GND) One Block Run, other GND activities, soccer, and baseball, according to Janet.

The family attends Albion Evangelical Free Church in Cokato, and enjoys participating in church activities, as well.

Mark is a Cub Scout, and David is currently a Cub Scout leader.

Before Howard Lake

Janet grew up in Willmar, and graduated from high school there. She went on to college at the University of Minnesota, Morris, which is where she met David.

David grew up and graduated high school in Ottertail, before attending college at the U of M Morris.

The couple was married in 1985 and lived in Loretto for awhile after marriage. They moved to Howard Lake in 1998, and have loved it ever since.

“I think what we really love about where we live is that we have great friends, it’s a great area, and the district has really great teachers,” Janet stated.

David owns a small business, Digital Lake of Howard Lake, where he services computers for businesses. Janet is an in-house attorney for Cargill.
