Home and Yard Spotlight: AR Engh Drain Service

A R Engh Drain Service has been offering full drain cleaning and repair services for the last five years, fixing anything from the kitchen sink to the sewer line outside your home.

This year, the company began offering trenchless sewer pipe repair in order to save clients’ yards.

“For people with nice landscaping and walkways, none of that has to be disturbed (to fix the sewer line),” said owner Andy Engh.

New rules in local communities Are cracking down on residents who have leaking sewer pipes, forcing them to fix the problems to eliminate infiltration of storm water into city sanitary sewers.

A R Engh Drain Services can have those repairs done within a day, any time of year, without tearing up someone’s lawn, Engh noted.

Those who have troublesome sewer lines, or for commercial businesses that tend to have a lot of grease or food particles going down the drain, A R Engh offers maintenance plans.

The company will come several times each year to auger or jet the sewer line without the client having to make an appointment.

Although trenchless sewer pipe repair has been around for a while, it is mostly companies in the Twin Cities area that offer it, according to Engh.

He wanted to be able to offer residents a local option for repairing their sewer lines without ripping up their lawns.

A R Engh uses cameras to view the sewer line and what may be broken or blocking it, as well as a locator that assists in finding the block.

Another use for the cameras and locator is assisting local farmers in finding clogs in drain tile, and assisting local excavators in their work.

There are many reasons for a sewer line to become clogged, with the most prevalent being tree root intrusion, Engh said.

Deteriorating pipes can deposit pieces of those pipes, along with soil, in the sewer line, causing it to become blocked.

If a pipe is not pitched properly, material will not move through it easily, causing it to clog.

Another reason drains and sewer lines become clogged is people putting things down the drain that do not belong there, including feminine products, paper towels, raw vegetables, and rags.

Luke Ewert, the drain service specialist at A R Engh, has five years experience with the business.

One of the most valuable things Ewert has found in a pipe is a woman’s diamond ring she had dropped down her sink.

One of the most interesting things he has found is ham bones clogging a drain because someone attempted to pour the ham juice down the toilet to prevent the grease from clogging the kitchen sink.

A R Engh offers 24-hour emergency service. Customers can call (320) 286-2020 anytime for assistance with their drain emergencies.
