LESTER PRAIRIE, MN Twenty-six applicants applied for the principal position at Lester Prairie Schools, which will soon be vacated by Principal Jeremy Schmidt, who has been hired as the district’s new superintendent.
A committee interviewed five of those candidates April 22, including:
• Greg Ewing Willmar dean of students;
• Melissa Wilson Q-comp advisor, Hutchinson Schools;
• Nathaniel Boyer GFW High School principal;
• Erica Powell Eagle Ridge Academy upper school principal; and

Schmidt noted the interviews took just over an hour each.
The interview committee selected two finalists; Nathaniel Boyer, Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop (GFW) High School principal; and Greg Ewing, dean of students at Kennedy Elementary School in Willmar.
Schmidt conducted an hour-long interview with each of the finalists, followed by a tour of the school during which Schmidt and the candidates met with staff members and discussed best practices and ideas for the future.
Boyer was chosen as Lester Prairie’s new principal. A negotiated contract will be presented to the board for approval during a special school board meeting at 7:15 a.m., Wednesday, May 13.
Boyer will begin his duties in Lester Prairie Wednesday, July 1.
