COKATO, MN - After a stint living in Minneapolis while attending Ñorth Central University, DC High School graduate Jon Thorson has returned to his hometown as co-pastor of Crossroads Community Church, located at 15905 Highway 12 in Cokato.
Thorson began preaching this summer, along with co-pastor Steve Basney.
Running the youth ministry and leading worship as guitar player and singer are among Thorson’s responsibilities.
“Sunday is about 10 percent of the work,” Thorson said.
Now co-pastor of the repurposed space of Crossroads sanctuary, Thorson, who has preached in basements and homes and said he believes he’s partaken in “better fellowship” in unorthodox settings, also said he will be focusing his efforts on “outreach to young families.”
Speaking of the elder demographic of his congregation, Thorson said he believes their knowledge of the Bible to most likely exceed his, and that he “can learn and be mentored by” this wise and seasoned segment.
Eager to join the Cokato religious community at large, Thorson said he looks forward to “partnering with other pastors.”
“We’re all the body of Christ together,” Thorson said.
This is not Crossroads’ first Thorson. Jon’s father was a former pastor for the non-denominational church.
Thorson, currently living in Hopkins, said he, his wife Breanna and 1-year-old daughter, Lydia, will soon be making the move to Cokato.
