COKATO, MN The 67th Annual Cokato Corn Carnival is set to begin Monday, Aug. 8, which means parades, rides, bingo, car and cash drawings, and, of course, free locally grown sweet corn (Tuesday and Wednesday nights with the purchase of a $3 Corn Carnival button).
A kiddie parade Monday evening at 6 p.m. will kick off the festivities, followed closely behind by the main parade.
Food stands, midway rides, and games will open at the parades’ conclusion.
There will be no free corn-on-the-cob served Monday evening. It will be served from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. The corn is donated by Fairbault Foods.
Events will pick up again Tuesday with the midway reopening at noon (bingo at 1:30 p.m.), and registration for children’s drawing (14 and younger) happening near the bingo stand until 3 p.m.
Drawings will take place at 3:15 p.m. on the main stage. Participants must be present to win.
A second drawing with registration will take place at the same times Wednesday afternoon.
Friends of the Cokato Library will be having its annual used book sale in the library building from 2 to 7 p.m. that day, and 69th Annual Miss Cokato Coronation will take place on the main stage at 8 p.m.
This year’s running royalty candidates are Olivia Dahlin, Hannah Goodman, Mikayla Hackbarth, Michayla Hanson, Cassidi Kirchoff, Jeanne Lindstrom, Elayna Markgraf, Melissa Moy, Allie Packard, Hana Pokornowski, and Caleigh Zitzloff.
Wednesday is the final day of the carnival, and the midway attractions will again be opening at noon with bingo starting at 1:30 p.m. The used book sale will continue at the library from 2 to 7 p.m.
The main stage is schedule to be quite active, starting with a children’s dance demonstration performed by Miss Wendy’s Dance and Fitness Studio from 1 to 3 p.m.
Following the children’s prize drawing, KRWC will be bringing its Road Show to the carnival at 3:30 p.m., and will be located next to the main stage.
Taking the stage at 7 p.m. is the Mid Minnesota Concert Band, followed by returning a cappella trio Tonic Sol Fa at 8 p.m.
Drawings for the 2016 Chevrolet Trax and cash prizes of $1,000; $1,500; $2,500; and seven $100 alternate prizes will close the carnival at 10 p.m.
Car raffle tickets are sold for $100 at Cokato City Hall, Cokato Motors, or any member of the Cokato Fire Department. Cash drawing tickets are included with the purchase of $3 Corn Carnival buttons, sold at local Cokato businesses.
The Cokato Museum and Akerlund Photography will be extending its hours for each day of the carnival:
• Monday, Aug. 8 from 5-9 p.m.
• Tuesday, Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
• Wednesday, Aug. 10 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
