LESTER PRAIRIE, MN Jeremy Mullery of Lester Prairie is working to rejuvenate the Lester Prairie Cub Scouts pack.
Mullery is involved in leading the group for five-year old Scouts, the same group his son is involved in. His sons were the reason he decided to get involved in the Scouts.
“My five-year old is actually able to be in the starter program, which is the lions program,” Mullery said. “I wanted my kids to be able to be in Boy Scouts.”
The group current has eight scouts, who meet once a month at a den meeting at the Lester Prairie City Hall.
All of the Scouts meet at a pack meeting once a month, as well, which occurs at the Winsted VFW. Most of the scouts in Mullery’s troop are from Lester Prairie, but a few are from Winsted.
The Scouts have been collecting cans for a while, but have recently changed the location of their trailer. They are currently collecting cans at a new location across from Central Cafe near the intersection of Central Avenue and Juniper St.
Mullery hopes that by providing kids in Lester Prairie with the opportunity to join the Scouts, the kids can build different skills to help them in the future.
“Honestly, I just want the kids to have new experiences. Having Boy Scouts on your resume is a really good resume builder,” Mullery said. “It teaches the kids a lot of different skills.”
There are currently 1.3 million Cub Scouts and 395,000 adult volunteers in the US.
