DASSEL, MN Taking place over Labor Day weekend is the 57th annual Red Rooster Days celebration.
From the sound of cheerful greeting to the smell of the largest chicken barbecue in the state, Dassel is proudly preparing for its Red Rooster fun.
Friday, Sept. 2
Opening the Red Rooster Days celebration is a farmers market at the band shell along Atlantic Avenue, taking place from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m.
Following the market will be a musical performance at Bandstand Park, starting at 6 p.m. More music will follow, with a street dance occurring from 8:30 p.m. to midnight.
The dance, located on Atlantic Avenue, will feature DiamondBack, a central Minnesota band that enjoys performing modern and classic country, as well as a little rock.
Saturday, Sept. 3
Waking up early will be participants in the 18-mile bike ride, starting at Breeds Park at 9 a.m. Pedaling shortly behind will be the 7-mile bicyclists, starting their route in the park at 9:30 a.m.

Starting at 10 a.m. will be a baseball program at the Dassel History Center, followed by the Red Rooster Fine Arts Show from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The show will also run Sunday, Sept. 4 from 1 to 3 p.m., and Monday, Sept. 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Artists in numerous categories may receive cash prizes. Entry deadline is Friday, Sept. 2. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Taking off at 2 p.m. is the Grande Day Parade. The parade route runs from 5th Street to William Avenue, to Willis Street, to Lake Street.
After the parade will be a barbecue, pie, and ice cream social at Gathsemane Lutheran Church.
The ambassador coronation ceremony will conclude the evening, starting at 7 p.m. in the Dassel-Cokato Performance Arts Center. Admission for adults is $6 and $3 for students.
Sunday, Sept. 4
A community worship service at Evangelical Covenant Church will open Sunday’s festivities at 10:30 a.m. Lunch will be served by the youth group in the church social hall.
The Minnesota Minn-E-Rods tractor pull will occur at Atlantic Avenue at 2 p.m.
Also starting at that time is the quilt show at Dassel Covenant Church, which will continue until 5 p.m. The show will resume Monday, Sept. 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Spring Lake Park will be the location for the brat feed, in the upper shelter. Brats, hot dogs, pop, floats, and popcorn will be served from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Rain or shine, a fireworks show in the park will follow the feed, around 9:30 p.m.
Monday. Sept. 5 Labor Day
Hitting the ground Labor Day morning will be members in the Red Rooster run/walk. Participants can either do the 5-mile run or the 1-mile run/walk.
Participants should be ready for take off at Dassel Ball Park. Registration fee is $25 the day of the race; $20 if registered before Thursday, Aug. 1.
Awards will be given.

The Dassel History Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., with the largest chicken barbecue in the state starting at 10:30 p.m. and ending around 3 p.m.
Food at the barbecue includes one-half-a-chicken, potato salad, coleslaw, bread, milk, and coffee. Ticket cost is $9 in advance or at the gate. Advance tickets can be purchased at Red Rooster Foods, Ron’s Service and Fuel Max, and Dassel City Hall.
The barbecue is handicap accessible on 1st Street.
Starting at the same time of the barbecue is the classic car and antique tractor show in downtown Dassel, as well as the golden egg hunt at Dassel Ball Park.
Kids ages 4 to 11 can participate in a pedal tractor pull at 1 p.m.
Adventures in Dassel
Participating in Dassel pride during Red Rooster Days is Adventures in Dassel, a community-based marketing plan dedicated to presenting the “unique opportunities” Dassel has to offer.
Taking place over the weekend will be free camping and shuttles, a cruising night, Battle of the DJs, and more.
