Papa Murphy's opens in Delano
Jan. 4, 2016

By Gabe Licht

DELANO, MN – Pizza lovers now have another option in Delano.

Papa Murphy’s Take ‘n Bake Pizza opened Tuesday at 1005 Crossings Dr., near True Value Hardware.

For those who may be unfamiliar with take-and-bake pizza, Papa Murphy’s Area Supervisor Brian Findley explained the concept.

“All pizzas are made fresh,” Findley said. “You take them home and bake them. We say it’s the hottest pizza in town because it’s coming from your oven and is ready when you want it to be.”

When Findley says fresh, he means the pizzas are made right in front of the customer, from the making of the dough to the finished pizza wrapped in cellophane.

Fresh also means never frozen.

“We don’t have a freezer,” Findley said, “because nothing is frozen.”

The design of the store is also fresh and new.

“This is the first store like this west of the Twin Cities,” Findley said. “It’s not the traditional red and green like so many Papa Murphy’s locations.”

For customers in a hurry, they can call (763) 972-7277 and order a pizza for pickup.

“If they call ahead, they can come to the pickup window and not get out of their car,” Findley said.

For those who order their pizza onsite, the goal is to have it prepared within three minutes of being ordered, though Findley noted it may take his newly trained staff some practice to consistently hit that goal.

The store is managed by Greg Louison, and is currently staffed by 16 part-time employees from Delano, Rockford, and Watertown. Papa Murphy’s is still hiring, with a goal of having 25 employees.

Growth is what brought Papa Murphy’s to Delano.

“We’re growing and Delano’s growing,” Findley said.

It didn’t take long for Papa Murphy’s to move into Delano.

“We were looking for a site in Delano around the 4th of July,” Findley said. “Now we’re opening less than five months later.”

He added that Papa Murphy’s is excited about being a part of the community.

“We’re very involved in the communities we serve,” Findley said. “We like to do fundraisers. Papa Murphy’s has joined the Delano Area Chamber of Commerce. We have a 25-foot trailer for events like the Taste of Delano. We will probably do sampling in the community. We’re looking to be involved. People will know Papa Murphy’s is in town.”

Papa Murphy’s is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
