WINSTED, MN Two lots in Winsted’s new industrial park will soon be put to good use.
During the July 5 Winsted City Council meeting, a purchase agreement with America’s Best Cargo, Inc. was approved for about five acres, in the amount of $120,000, including $2,500 in non-refundable earnest money.
City Administrator Dan Tienter noted that the city and the business have been in negotiations over the past several months regarding this sale, and have agreed to split the cost of improvements, which are expected to total about $240,000.
The sale will close July 1, 2017.
“They plan to begin construction shortly after closing,” Tienter said.
He noted that the agreement approved Tuesday only covers the sale of the two lots, and the business will still need to enter a site review process, pay permit fees, etc.
Tienter added that based on initial conversations with business representatives, 10 to 12 jobs will likely be added.
America’s Best Cargo, Inc. is a trailer manufacturer that currently has locations in Howard Lake, Waverly, and Cokato.
The council approved a quote of $173,940 from Reiner Contracting of Hutchinson for phase 1 of the new industrial park, which will include constructing the remaining half of Industrial Drive, construction of a temporary stormwater system, and providing two lots with water and sewer services, driveways, and grading. Five bids were received, and Reiner Contracting was the lowest.
Approval is contingent upon securing Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) grant funds for the project. The grant has been authorized, but a formal agreement is still in process, according to engineer Josh Eckstein with Bolton & Menk.
The project will be completed by June 30, 2017. Work could begin this fall or next spring, but must be completed within 45 days of starting.
