Jan. 16, 2017

DELANO, MN – Newly-elected school board members Rachel Depa and Alan Briesemeister officially joined the Delano School Board Jan. 9, as they were sworn in alongside Amy Johnson, who was re-elected to the board.

Johnson was unanimously re-elected as chair.

Board Member Mark Larson* was unanimously elected as vice-chair.

Board Member Carolyn Milano was unanimously re-elected as clerk.

Board Member Lisa Seguin was unanimously re-elected as treasurer.

The board approved compensation rates of $60 per regular meeting, a $25 minimum for committee, work sessions, and special meetings, plus $12.50 per hour after two hours, not to exceed $100.

The board chair will receive an additional $300 per year, while the clerk will receive an additional $250 per year.

Johnson said the rates have not changed for about 12 years.

The district mileage rate will be 53.5 cents per mile, the same as the IRS rate.

The board approved Rupp, Anderson, Squires, & Waldspurger PA as the district’s official attorneys and Dick Grinley as local attorney. Superintendent Matt Schoen, Johnson, and Business Manager Mary Reeder are authorized to contact those attorneys.

School board meetings will continue to be the fourth Monday of each month at Delano City Hall, with the exception of meetings March 20 and Dec. 18, which will be in the high school media center. The March meeting was moved from March 27 due to spring break, and the December meeting is historically the third Monday of the month and serves as the Truth in Taxation hearing.

The board received two quotes for official newspaper, and approved a quote of $5.68 per column inch from the Delano Herald Journal, more than $10 per column inch less than the other quote.
