FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, MN A Sunday evening fire turned a hay barn into a complete loss Sunday evening.
Delano Fire Department was paged to the fire at 2500 Co. Rd. 30 SE at 5:35 p.m. Sunday.
It was quickly apparent that the barn would not be able to be saved, as Delano Fire Chief Bob Van Lith said the structure was falling down when firefighters arrived.
No animals were hurt or killed in the fire. Horses that were in a fenced area near the building were removed from the property.
Van Lith reported that the firefighters were able to keep the flames from endangering other buildings.
Firefighters from Watertown, Montrose, and Waverly provided mutual aid, with about 30 firefighters total responding to the blaze.
Firefighters were on scene for more than four hours.
While the cause of the fire has not been confirmed, Van Lith said it might have been caused by green hay that spontaneously combusted.
