LESTER PRAIRIE, MN Frank the Tank, an English bulldog owned by Tricia Olson and Pace Palmer, won the 4th annual Running of the Bulldogs at Canterbury Park in Shakopee May 29.
Olson has lived in Lester Prairie since November, and she and Palmer own one other English bulldog: 5-year-old Rupert.
Olson first heard about this race last year. She knew 2-and-a-half-year-old Frank was a fast dog and decided to enter him in it. Frank was chosen, along with 47 other dogs, to participate.
In the Running of the Bulldogs, there are four heats, each including 12 dogs. The top three dogs from each heat then go on to the final round.
Frank had a large audience to watch him win, as more than 12,000 people were there to watch the dogs, as well as the nine horse races that were also happening.
For Frank the Tank, as well as Tricia Olson, this was the first dog race they had participated in. However, it will likely not be their last, as Olson is excited to participate in the Running of the Bulldogs again next year.
