HOWARD LAKE, MN For people who need a place for their boats, trucks, furniture, or other belongings, a new storage business in Howard Lake can help.
The business, called Wright Storage Units, is co-owned by Howard Lake residents Doug Warren and Scott Graham, along with Scott’s wife, Amy.
“I saw a need for it,” said Scott, who also owns a moving company in Howard Lake called Graham Moving.
Scott’s moving customers often need temporary storage space. Some have sold their previous home but haven’t found a new home to purchase yet, and others are waiting for the home they purchased or built to be ready.
In the past, Scott would call different storage places looking for space for his customers. Now, he can direct them to Wright Storage Units in Howard Lake. Customers pay month-to-month, and can store items as long as they like. Scott said the most common time frame is two to three months.
Wright Storage Units is located at 1020 Commerce Blvd., just off Highway 12. The Grahams and Warren purchased the vacant lot from the City of Howard Lake, and began construction of the storage facility this past summer. The first use of the storage units was Oct. 26.
“It’s brand new,” Warren said, adding that many local contractors were utilized for the project.
The storage units are available in multiple sizes. Twenty-eight of them are 12-by-22-foot units; three are 12-by-44-foot units; and two (currently in use) are 22-by-40-foot units.
The doors are eight feet high and 10 feet wide, giving customers plenty of space to store cars and trucks. The area is fully paved, helping to keep items clean. Inside the units, the concrete flooring features a poly-barrier to stop moisture.
Security is important to Warren and the Grahams, and staff regularly visit the property. The area is well-lit and is monitored by 24-hour video surveillance.
