LESTER PRAIRIE, MN Phyllis Hummel of Lester Prairie will be inducted into the South Dakota Country Music Hall of Fame (SDCMHoF) during its 15th annual awards ceremony at the South Dakota State Fairgrounds in Huron, SD Sunday, Sept. 2. The 2018 inductees will be presented their awards on the Farm Bureau Dakotaland Stage by Gate 3 starting at 6 p.m.
Hummel has been performing with her band, Swinging Country Band, for 10 years. She entertains residents at nursing homes in the area, and performs at a variety of locations and events during the year.
Inductees are all nominated by their peers, friends, or family. Patti Graffunder, Hummel’s “roadie,” nominated her for the award.
Inductees are then selected based on their musical history, promotion, and support of country music in South Dakota.
The hall of fame will present two musical events Saturday, Sept. 1. Kim Plender, 2018 CD of the Year Award-winner, will perform at 6 p.m.; and Neil and Jenni Baguaus of Milbank, SD will perform at 6:45 p.m.
The South Dakota Country Music Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization, and all work is done on a voluntary basis. The organization relies primarily on donations for its support.
In addition to honoring musicians, some of the donations for the hall of fame are used to help provide musical supplies for students in elementary schools.
