WINSTED As the new pastor of River of Life Christian Church in downtown Winsted, Jon Wall is excited to share messages about God’s love and the Bible.
“That’s my favorite part [of being a pastor],” he commented.
Wall began serving at River of Life Jan. 6. He is also the pastor for Harvest Community Church in Lester Prairie and Bethel Fellowship in Chanhassen.
“It sounds like a lot, but all three of the churches are smaller,” he said.
In order to best accommodate Wall’s preaching schedule, River of Life’s worship services take place at 5 p.m. Saturday evenings.
The time also works well for many attendees especially those who would rather sleep in on Sunday mornings. Plus, the service isn’t too late in the evening, so people can still make other plans for Saturday night. Wall encourages people to attend a service or contact him if they are interested in learning more about the church.
Wall, a Wisconsin native, first considered pursuing a career in ministry during his teen years.
“I had some really good influences who were pastors,” he recalled.
After he graduated from high school, Wall moved to Minnesota in 1989 to study theology at Crown College in St. Bonifacius. It was there that he met his wife, Jannina, who is originally from Ecuador.
After earning his bachelor’s degree, Wall went on to earn a master’s degree from Bethel Seminary in St. Paul.
“I first became a youth pastor in December of 1999,” Wall said. “Then I was a senior pastor (starting in 2002) in Norwood Young America. In 2015, I started in Chanhassen.”
Wall and Jannina currently live in Mayer, and have two children. Their daughter, 23, is working for an insurance company in Edina; and their son, 18, is a student at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
Wall said he is looking forward to being part of Winsted, and he hopes to make life better for people in the community.
One of his favorite Bible passages is from Ephesians 3:16-20: “I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
