Minnesota State Lottery

DARWIN, MN – Angie Dietel, a registered nurse from Darwin, won $100,000 while visiting the Minnesota Lottery’s booth at the Minnesota State Fair Aug. 28.

She went to the fair to support her son, who was showing a project for 4-H. While her son won a blue ribbon, Dietel ended up coming home with a prize of her own by playing the Money Tree scratch game.

“I thought, this can’t be real,” recalled Dietel, who discovered her win the following day.

She said the main reason she went to the lottery’s fair booth was for a T-shirt. She purchased four $5 Money Tree tickets to get a free Vikings T-shirt.

“I was happy with my shirt,” she added. “I never expected to win like this.”

Dietel claimed her prize at lottery headquarters in Roseville Sept. 3.

The mom of three said she’s looking forward to getting some “odds and ends” that they have wanted for a while.

The Minnesota Lottery’s booth at the state fair, located on the corner of Judson and Nelson, was a lucky spot for fairgoers.

In addition to Dietel’s $100,000 winning Money Tree scratch ticket, a $100,000 winning I’MN to Summer scratch ticket may also have been sold during the great-Minnesota get-together.

The I’MN to Summer winner spoke with lottery staff at the fair booth and appeared to have purchased a $100,000 winner, but she has yet to claim the prize.

Lottery executive director Adam Prock said the lucky streak isn’t surprising.

“Our lottery booth remains the highest selling non-food vendor at the fair,” he explained. “This year alone, the booth sold more than $800,000 in tickets, which places it in the top 30 percent in sales out of our more than 3,000 retail locations. Being a part of events like the Minnesota State Fair is a great way to reach new players from all over Minnesota, helping us deliver on our mission of raising money for important beneficiaries.”
