DASSEL, MN It’s been said that “a man who cuts his own hair has a fool for a barber.” Whether that’s true or not, the men of Dassel have no need to worry now that Rick Regenold, of Eagan, has opened the doors of Dassel’s barbershop at 416 3rd Street, under a new name.
“The Barber of Dassel” is serving Dassel and the surrounding community by offering haircuts, shaves, facials, beard trims, and children’s haircuts.
Regenold has been in the business for 16 years, with shops in various locations around Minnesota, but had been taking some time off from the trade, until Tuesday, Nov. 19, when the shop officially opened.
A veteran of the US Navy, Regenold was working security at an airport when he saw the listing for a barbershop in Dassel back in June. Having always wanted to own a shop in a small town, he kept his eye on the shop, and when it was still available in October, he bought it.
Now he’s working on settling into the shop, and hopes to get a real barber pole to put out front. Besides “keeping open,” his goal is “to keep everyone looking good in Dassel and the surrounding area,” Regenold said.
Regenold is currently running two special promotions for students. From now until Dec. 26, students from Dassel-Cokato schools can get a haircut 50 percent off if they come in wearing school colors, in honor of the Chargers’ advancement to the State Championship.
Dassel-Cokato elementary students can receive 50 percent off a haircut if they bring in an ornament or some holiday art to decorate the shop.
The Barber of Dassel takes walk-ins and appointments, and is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
Regenold encourages people to come in for the “good conversation and exceptional wit,” adding that “the haircuts aren’t bad either.”
