HOWARD LAKE, MN – Amy and Ryan Streich of Howard Lake are working with Christian Adoption Services, based out of Fargo, ND, to adopt their first child — and its going to cost them about $25,000.

Amy and Ryan have been married since Aug. 13, 2016. Ryan works at a financial branch in Minneapolis and Amy is a fourth grade teacher at Cokato Elementary.

A fundraiser will take place Saturday, Feb. 23 at Waverly Village Hall to help the couple raise the money they need to fulfill their wish of becoming parents. There will be games, face painting, and more throughout the day of the event.

“Anyone is more than welcome to attend whether they have a personal connection to us, or just have a heart for adoption,” Amy said.

They have planned multiple activities for the fundraiser to help them get the money they need for their new family member, as well as to ensure that everyone who attends has a great time. Additionally, any extra proceeds from the event will go toward helping another local family to adopt.

“Money seems to be a common reason people prolong or forego adopting, and we don’t want money to be a hurdle in that process for them, like it was for us,” Amy said.

Amy explained that adoption has always been in her heart, and she always knew that it was the route she was going to take when it came to starting a family.

“My sister was adopted, so it has always been a natural part of my life,” she said. “When I first mentioned starting our family through adoption to Ryan he had never really thought of it before, but was completely on board. We feel that this is the path God intended us to walk on.”

Adoption is typically a long process, and can take anywhere from six months to a few years, depending on how long it takes couples to complete their applications and home studies, and to be matched with a child.

“As soon as we pass our home study, we will become active. This is where we are able to present to birth families,” Amy explained. “We are hoping to become active in the next few months.”
