Victim identified as Buffalo man; Montrose man arrested in connection with the case
MEEKER COUNTY, MN The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a dead body along the roadway in the 74500 block of 309th St. in Kingston Township at approximately 8:01 a.m. Sunday, according to a release from Meeker County Sheriff Brian Cruze.
The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the deceased as Justin Edward Warnke, 34, of Buffalo.
The initial investigation revealed Warnke died somewhere other than where he was found.
Detectives are actively working to determine the specific cause, manner, and circumstances of Warnke’s death, including where he died.
The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office is coordinating with the Wright County Sheriff’s Office to take the lead on the investigation with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
The Meeker County Sheriff’s Office arrested Alejandro Vega, 37, of Montrose, in connection with this investigation, according to a release from Meeker County Sheriff Brian Cruze. Vega has been booked into the Meeker County Jail pending formal charges. Vega was arrested Wednesday on a traffic stop on US Highway 12 and Meeker County Road 9 without incident.
The deceased was sent to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and autopsy. The investigation into the cause and manner of death is ongoing.
