presentElect Spencer to Indepenence councils th ndence.te for incumFrom: Carla Smith, Lynn B

Nov. 3 is an important day. We have the opportunity to elect Brad Spencer to serve on our city council.

Brad is the kind of thoughtful, dedicated, hardworking individual we need, wrestling with the issues that face our city. He has demonstrated his willingness to roll up his sleeves and do the real work of building and improving our community.

He not only has served on the city’s planning commission for six years (including 18 months as the chair) and the board of the Lake Sarah Improvement Association for eight years, but he has also been a dedicated Cub Scout leader and has put in countless volunteer hours . . . everything from creating and maintaining web sites for various organizations, to cheerfully unloading junk brought to city hall on the city-wide cleanup day in May.

Brad is smart and articulate. He does his homework, and asks the tough questions to make sure he is informed about the real facts and figures involved in issues. He cares deeply about keeping our community safe and protecting our natural resources.

He is committed to keeping our taxes as low as possible and spending our tax dollars responsibly. And perhaps most importantly, he will listen respectfully to all points of view, look hard at the facts to determine what is in the best interest of the city and its citizens, and act with fairness and integrity.

I encourage you to vote for Brad Spencer for Independence City Council Nov. 3, 2009.
