Caramel Ribbon Brownies

14 oz. bag caramels

5 1/2 oz. can evaporated milk

1/2 cup chocolate chips

2 cups flour

2 cups sugar

1 cup margarine or butter

1 cup water

4 T cocoa

2 eggs

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 tsp. soda

1 T. vanilla

Melt caramels with 2 T. milk.

Sift flour, sugar. Boil margarine, water, and cocoa. Pour over flour sugar mixture. Beat 2 minutes. Add eggs, buttermilk (add 1 T. vinegar to evaporated milk to make buttermilk), soda, and vanilla. Beat 2 minutes. Spread half in pan.

Bake 350° 10-15 minutes. Sprinkle with chocolate chips and drizzle with caramel mixture. Drop remaining dough on top. Bake additional 20-25 minutes. Chocolate frosting optional.
