Fall tricksters and spooks will be out before you know it. Have your treats ready.
Halloween Layer Cake
1 cup butter or margarine
2 cups sugar
4 eggs
3 cups flour
1 T. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup milk
1/4 cup cocoa
1/4 cup water
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 T. orange peel
Red and yellow food coloring
Cream butter and sugar until light. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each.
Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Add alternately with milk. Mix well. Combine cocoa, water and vanilla. Stir into 2 cups cake batter. Pour into greased 9-inch round baking pan.
Add orange peel and food coloring to remaining batter. Pour into two 9-inch round pans, greased and floured. Bake 350° for 30 minutes.
Frosting
Three, 3oz. packages cream cheese, softened
5 1/2 cups powdered sugar
2 T. milk
8 drops yellow and 6 drops red food coloring
Beat frosting ingredients together. Assemble cake layers with chocolate layer in middle with frosting in-between.
Glaze for top
3 squares semi sweet chocolate
1/3 cup whipping cream
Microwave until melted. Cool slightly. Slowly our over cake, letting glaze drizzle down the sides.
