Raw Apple Bread

1/2 cup butter or margarine

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

2 cups flour

1/2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. baking soda

2 T buttermilk or sour milk

2 cups chopped apples, unpeeled

1/2 cup chopped nuts

1 tsp. vanilla or grated lemon rind

Cream butter, add sugar slowly and continue to beat until light and lemon color. Beat in eggs. Sift flour with salt, soda and powder. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Stir in apples, nuts and flavoring.

Pour into greased loaf pan. Bake 350° for approximately 1 hour. Cool in pan 10 minutes before removing. Cool completely before slicing.
