Walnut Cherry Bread

1/2 cup butter or margarine, softened

3/4 cup sugar

2 eggs

2 cups flour

1 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp. salt

1 cup buttermilk

1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

10 oz. jar maraschino cherries, drained and chopped

1 tsp. vanilla extract

In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Combine the flour, baking soda, and salt. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk.

Stir in walnuts or pecans, cherries and vanilla. Pour into a greased and floured 4x8-inch loaf pan. Bake at 350° degrees for 65 to 75 minutes.
