Hutchinson serves up fun at the fair
The McLeod County Fair features loads of live entertainment, fireworks, and a car giveaway, among a great many other events, Wednesday through Sunday, August 15-19.
Different stages offer loads of live entertainment throughout the fair, along with clown performances, a pedal pull and 4-H shows, demonstrations and contests among other events.
The first day of the fair, Wednesday, Aug. 15 is Community Day, sponsored by KDUZ KARP.
Fireworks will once again bring in the fair “with a bang” as a fireworks display can be seen on the fairgrounds in the evening.
And of course, rounding out the fair’s festivities is the grand prize car giveaway. McLeod County Fair is one of the few fairs that give a car away.
“They have done this (car drawing) for years. It is a tradition, and not many other county fairs do this,” Marian Filk of the fair said.
Aside from these major prize drawings, there are also nightly attendance prize drawings.
Midway, various barns and buildings offer much in free entertainment in the form of various shows, exhibits, displays and competitions.
One can’t speak about the fair without mentioning the popular grandstand events. As horse racing and other horse shows were the major events in the grandstand years ago, horses come back every year at the grandstand.
Last year featured a rodeo Saturday at the grandstand. Autocross, an afternoon imperial stunt show and the popular demolition derby are also some of the high-demand, popular events that take place on a regular basis.
