Hollywood Plow Day set for Saturday, Sept. 6

By Starrla Cray

For a taste of what farming was like in the “old days,” stop by the farm of Larry Kassulker (16555 Utah Drive in Mayer) Saturday, Sept. 6.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Hollywood Plow Day will feature tractor demonstrations, horse-drawn wagon rides, and concessions provided by St. John Lutheran Church of Hollywood Township. The event will take place on the back 40 acres of the farm; signs will direct visitors to the location.

Concessions will be provided by St. John Lutheran Church of Hollywood Township.

At last year’s plow day, about 27 tractors showed their capabilities.

To sign up to bring a tractor – or a horse-drawn plow – to the event, leave a message for Kassulker at (952) 955-2755 or

“Please call by Aug. 30 if you wish to enter,” Kassulker noted, adding that participants should provide their name, model of tractor, and year if known.

Kassulker plans to create a brochure with the names of plowers and ad sponsors, and he is looking for additional sponsors to keep this event going. Current sponsors include Winsted Farmers Co-op, Hollywood Hybrids (Channel Seeds), and Waconia Farm Supply (UFC).
