VOTERS' GUIDE 2010

Steve Stotko has filed for the position of mayor in Winsted.
Why are you running for office?
I believe I can help the City of Winsted navigate through the difficult times of continued Local Government Aid (LGA) cuts, and find ways to continue to provide the quality services the citizens have come to expect.
I enjoy working with the other members of the city council and staff.
What do you think are two major issues at this time, and what do you propose to do about them?
The economy has played a major role in cities losing LGA. Over the next few years, we have to be less dependent on the state for that aid.
Currently, the aid we are getting from the state makes up a little less than half of our budget. We’ll need to replace that aid with other revenue sources, not more taxes, or we’ll be forced to provide less services.
Along with our aging population comes our aging infrastructure. Our roads, and some of the water mains and sewer lines will need to be upgraded. Financing for these projects then becomes the most difficult challenge that lies ahead.
Why should you be elected?
Common sense and listening to all sides before making decisions are my strong points.
I’ll continue to focus on making Winsted a great place to call home.
